Department management¶
Administrators and managers organize departments and shift patterns.
Overview¶
- Add departments — Admins only (create/delete)
- Edit name and color
- Activate / deactivate departments
- Shift patterns — Per-department recurring templates
Note: Only administrators can create or delete departments. Managers can edit their department only.
Department list¶
- Name
- Status — Active / inactive
- Actions — Edit, delete
Administrators see all departments; managers see only their own.
Add a department (admin)¶
- Add department
- Enter name (e.g. Kitchen, Service, Bar) and optional color (cosmetic)
- Create
Edit¶
Administrators: any department. Managers: only their department.
You can change name and color.
Delete (admin)¶
⋮ → Delete → confirm.
Restrictions:
- Cannot delete if employees are still assigned — reassign them in Employee management first
- Cannot delete the last active department — create another department first
On success:
- Department, its shifts, and its patterns are removed permanently
Activate / deactivate¶
Deactivate (instead of delete):
- Edit department
- Deactivate — Status becomes inactive
Inactive departments:
- Stay visible in the list as inactive
- Disappear from the shift calendar department dropdown
- Existing shifts may still exist; new shifts cannot target that department
Activate again from the edit dialog.
Shift patterns (per department)¶
Patterns define recurring needs by weekday and time.
Add a pattern¶
- Edit the department
- Scroll to Shift patterns
- Add pattern
- Set weekday, start/end time, required headcount, optional notes
- Save
The pattern appears in the calendar for that weekday.
Edit fields as needed, or delete a pattern. Existing shifts are not removed when a pattern is deleted.
Organization tips¶
- Start with a few clear departments
- Every employee belongs to one department
- Managers see only their department; admins see all
